Creative, sensory, and surprisingly versatile

Sometimes it's the simplest materials that keep children endlessly engaged.
Wikki Stix are new to my range, but in America, they have been used for almost 30 years in schools, therapy, and simply at home at the kitchen table.
These thin strands of hand-knitting yarn with a layer of soft wax feel different from ordinary craft materials right away. They bend, stick without glue, and immediately invite children to explore, feel, and create.
Why Wikki Stix are so loved
The power of Wikki Stix lies in the combination of simplicity, creativity, and sensory-motor experience. Children can use them to make shapes, practice letters, draw, build, and fantasize—without scissors, glue, or mess.
Due to the unique material, they feel attractive and soothing in the hands. This makes them popular with parents, teachers, and therapists.
Sensory material with a rich tactile experience
The light pressure of the fingertips plays an important role when working with Wikki Stix. This is where the sensory-motor experience arises: feeling and moving simultaneously.
The material's structure offers many tactile stimuli:
- sturdy but flexible
- slightly sticky without feeling dirty
- warm and soft due to the wax layer
- easily kneaded and shaped
- pleasant for small children's hands
These kinds of sensory experiences help children consciously explore materials and support the development of:
- fine motor skills
- hand strength and finger coordination
- bilateral coordination
- creativity and imagination
- concentration and executive functions
- sensory information processing
Some materials you just have to experience. Wikki Stix are a perfect example of this.
Versatile use
Wikki Stix are incredibly versatile and therefore useful for home, school, and therapy.
For example, use them:
- as creative craft material
- for practicing letters and numbers
- for preparatory writing activities
- as an alternative to pencils or crayons
- on the go as clean and compact toys
- during therapy or motor exercises
- for free fantasy and construction play
Because they stick without glue, they are also ideal for children who like to see immediate results.
Durable and reusable
Another great advantage: Wikki Stix are durable and can be reused again and again. Simply straighten them out and start over.
They are produced in America by a small family business and made from hand-knitting yarn with a thin layer of non-toxic, food-grade wax—similar to the wax used in chewing gum and lipstick.
Practical experience
Exercise therapist Marieke has been working with Wikki Stix for years and regularly uses them for:
- motor development
- sensory information processing
- tactile stimulus processing
- creative therapy forms
The combination of playing, feeling, and moving makes this material particularly valuable in both therapy and play.
Different sets available
In the webshop, you will find various sets: from small introductory sets to extensive packages with exercise books and examples. New sets from America are regularly added.
A material that continues to invite children to feel, explore, and create—simple, open-ended, and surprisingly versatile.
