Wikki Stix, new in my range
But in America, where they are also made, they have been in use for almost 30 years in schools, therapists and homes. Sometimes it is the simplicity . Wikki Stix are small thin yarn pieces with a thin low wax - waxed yarn.
Success
The versatility and the sensorimotorically different material makes these small, handy wires a success.
Versatility
In the classroom as a teaching aid , on the road with children as clean and handy play material . But also as an alternative to pencils and crayons, this is always handy to have at hand. Also as creative craft material for art or craft assignments, something different. These types of assignments always stimulate fine motor skills. The special thing: they stick without glue, a light pressure with the fingertip is enough.
Sensorimotor skills – calm tactile quality
And it is precisely this light pressure with the fingertip that is the key.
Involving the senses (in this case: feeling) in movement exercises (in this case: crafting). That is sensorimotor skills!
Let children gain experience by offering different materials. The Wikki Stix are hard, but because of the wax they can be pressed, rough, but also warm and soft because of the wax, flexible and yet also firm. Another typical example of something you have to experience and cannot explain.
A unique product!
Durable
Wikki stix are durable. They can be straightened and reused over and over again .
Made in America by a small company, made from hand knitting yarn and coated with a thin layer of non-toxic food grade wax, the kind used in chewing gum and lipstick.
