11 play options with the roller board, endless fun

Children's practice and mother

The roller board is also called a scooter board

Where can it be used?

The roller board is suitable for children to play all kinds of games in different rooms. I use it a lot in my pediatric practice, but it can also be used at home. I also see many possibilities for schools, preschools, daycare centers, gyms, or playrooms. If you plan to use the roller board in a gym class, it's advisable to buy several at once. Different colors also allow you to have different teams.

The use

The roller board is sturdy and has two handles that you can use as a support point, but which can also be used to tie a rope to.
You can use the roller board in different ways: lying down, sitting, on your knees, standing, pulling each other, pushing, racing, slaloming, transporting things - the play possibilities are endless and leave plenty of room for the child's imagination.
With the roller board you stimulate movement, motor skills, balance and you train and strengthen different muscles and muscle groups.
Pay attention to safety, especially of fingers, but also of long hair and loose clothing.
To give you an idea of the many possibilities, I've compiled a list. Of course, there are many more variations, but this should get you started right away.

Games and features

1. Lying on your stomach

- push yourself forward as if you are rowing (arms forward and back at the same time)
- push yourself forward as if you were swimming front crawl
- push off and turn around with your arms and legs off the ground
- push a ball in front of you towards a goal
- turtle, use your arms and legs to move forward
- airplane, push off and fly forward with your legs up
- play a game, take a piece from one side to the other and put it in its place, then go get the next piece from the base.
- use two toilet plungers to move forward, this can also be done by rowing (at the same time) and crawling (alternating)

2. Sitting

- feet on the ground in front of you and walk forward
- feet in front of you on the ground, they remain in place, you rotate by making hip movements
easier? bend your knees
variation: clockwise and counterclockwise

3. On your knees or standing

- stretch a rope and pull yourself along the rope
variation: forward, backward, lying down, legs around the rope, turn around but stay with the rope

4. Pulling each other

- you pull a wagon with a rope/gym ribbon/swimming tube
- with a swimming tube you pull to the left, to the right, turn clockwise and counterclockwise, pull forward and push backward

5. Pushing each other

- sit well on the board so that you can be pushed forward with hands on your shoulders
- legs stretched out in front of you, pick something up between your legs on the other side and transport it back
- legs stretched out in front of you with a cylinder or yoga block between them, and a ball in front of it, which you mustn't lose (snow shovel)
- lie on the plank and push the other person along by holding their legs (wheelbarrow)
variation: turn the basket upside down in your hands and, like a hungry hippo, catch balls with the basket

6. Racing

- Give real racing instructions (start the engine, get ready…) and have the driver complete a lap at a fast pace, with a timer and a record to break, of course…
- Race against someone else to see who's the fastest to the other side? Fun in a gym...

7. Slalom

- move between the pawns without touching them
variation: distance from the pawns, transfer something and take it with you in your hands
- being pulled between pawns, the person on the board must make sure he doesn't touch the pawns
- pull the roller board on a rope between the pawns and make sure that this 'dog' reaches the other side intact (or full)

8. Transporting things

- create a course in which you transport bean bags from one side to the other, for example
- let children bring letters and make a word (can also be done lying/sitting on the board)
- place sums down and let them transport the answers and place them next to the correct sum (can also be done lying/sitting on the board)
- Tie a rope to the board and let the child slalom between the cones. The load must, of course, reach the other side in one piece.

9. Next to the shelf

- lean forward, hold the handles and push the board forward while walking with a straight back (pay attention to your pace, so that your posture remains good)
- sit on the floor with both hands on the handles, pretending to wash the windows (in the shape of the letter W)
- push ups with one hand on the plank, moving it sideways
- on hands and knees, 2 hands on the plank and do push ups

Also possible:

10.Work with two planks, two children

- link arms and work together (almost all of the above commands are possible)
- when holding a rope or tube, the inner arms interlock and the outer arms hold the rope
- make a train, you both sit on a board, your legs are in front and connect the back board with the front

11.Work with two planks, one child, one under the belly and one under the legs

- especially pulling and slaloming is very challenging now

Summary

Of course, there are many more possibilities with this roller board. I'm so happy I have one at Bij Kee's children's practice. The children ask for it and love the exercises on the board, and I love creating exercises to challenge the children to make the correct movements.

In short, highly recommended!
