10 Playing Suggestions: "How to Cross the Center Line"

In my previous blog, I highlighted the "why" of crossing the midline. Here's "how" it can be practiced playfully every day. Tips and play suggestions have been collected in a Facebook call. Additions are always welcome to make the playful practice as varied and fun as possible.

Tips for playfully crossing the midline:

  1. Exercise therapist Marieke saw this air hockey game in the store and couldn't resist. Super useful for stimulating tummy time, improving hand-eye coordination, and practicing crossing the midline.
    2. Therapist Miriam: Place puzzle pieces around the area where the puzzle is being made instead of on one side.

3. Remedial teacher Damayanti: I indeed practice this more through brain gym exercises like raising the right knee and touching it with the left hand, and then vice versa, touching the left knee with the right hand, etc. And of course, by writing the lazy eight on paper/in the air. And walking over a line with crossed steps while reciting multiplication tables, for example.

4. Teacher Katrijn: Putting pennies in a piggy bank. Place two bowls, one on the right and one on the left. Pennies from the right bowl go into the piggy bank on the left side and vice versa.

5. Ine: With juggling scarves: throwing them up and catching them with crossed arms, for example... countless variations can be thought of.

6. Pedagogical assistant Hanneke: Sitting in a circle and passing the ball. First clockwise, then counter-clockwise, above your head and behind your back, crossing the midline with large balls in a circle.

7. Toys42hands toy tip: magnetic marble run. Build the track so there are starting points for the marble on the right and left. Stand directly in front of the marble run and let the marble start on the right with the left hand, and on the left with the right hand.

8. Toys42hands toy tip: Draw the large play board with cord. Place it directly in front of the body and cross over the entire board with your hand to reach all corners.

9. Pinterest board: Crossing midline / Überkreuzen Mittellinie

10. Old-fashioned clapping games or modern versions of them. You can find many of them on YouTube. Here's an introduction:
